Designing the joists for XtremDeck aluminium slats

Implementation of the structure supporting XtremDeck

XtremDeck can be installed on a metal structure (aluminium or steel/aluminium) or a wooden structure.
If the primary structure is steel, we recommend that you create a secondary wooden or aluminium joist to which you can attach XtremDeck. It is difficult to screw invisible fixings directly onto steel joists.

The design of the structure, the calculation of permissible loads, stability, bracing and all mechanical aspects of the structure are the responsibility of the company installing it.

On average, a support (joist, batten) must be provided every 50-60 cm.

Use of prescriptions of the DTU 51.4 for wooden joists with XtremDeck® boards

DTU 51.4 "External wood decking" applies (as its name suggests) only to solid wood decking. It does not therefore apply to composite decking or XtremDeck aluminium decking.
However, DTU 51.4 contains many useful provisions on the design of the structure (joisting) when it is built using a timber frame: spacing between joists, use of polymer blocks, edge rules for drilling joists, pre-calculated abacuses and rules of means for dimensioning joists.

All this information is perfectly applicable and practical for designing and installing a wooden joist to support XtremDeck.
