Implementation of the structure supporting XtremDeck
XtremDeck can be installed on a metal structure (aluminium or steel/aluminium) or a wooden structure.
If the primary structure is made of steel, it is recommended to create a secondary joist made of wood or aluminum on which you can fix XtremDeck. Indeed, it is difficult to screw hybrid fasteners onto steel joists.
The design of the structure, the calculation of permissible loads, stability, bracing and all mechanical aspects of the structure are the responsibility of the company installing it.
On average, a support (joist, batten) must be provided every 50-60 cm.
Use of prescriptions of the DTU 51.4 for wood joists with XtremDeck slats
XtremDeck is made in France, which allows us to offer you for projects The DTU 51.4 "Exterior wooden decking" only targets (as its name indicates) solid wood decking. It is therefore not applicable to composite slats or XtremDeck aluminum slats.
However, DTU 51.4 contains many useful requirements on the design of the structure (joists) when it is built in a wooden frame: center distances between joists, use of polymer pads, edge rules for drilling joists, pre-calculated charts and average rules for sizing joists.
All this information is perfectly applicable and practical for the design and implementation of wooden joists to support XtremDeck.
